Hotel Dinner

The Ceylan InterContinental Hotel, Wedneday, 4th October (7.30pm for 8.30pm) - Citronelle Room ('N' floor)

A four course served dinner will be served on the night beofore the first day of the conference - open to all delegates and their spouses/guests and a chance to meet before the conference. Set in the stunning location of the top floor of the conference hotel dinner wil be preceeded by a drinks reception in the same room from 7.30pm to include local wines, beers, gin, whisky, vodka, mixers and soft drinks. Afterwards the City Lights Bar on the top floor offers live music - every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Thursday, 5th October (10.00am to 2.30pm) "Life Style of Istanbul"

Taksim & Beyoglu are at the heart of this metropolitan city. Records concerning the area reach back as far as 500 years.The guided tour will start in front of the historical building of the British Consulate, called Pera House, built in 1801 with the permission of Sultan Selim III. Continue to walk through the narrow streets and arrive at the lively Food Market. This is a hustling, bustling place with beer houses and mussel vendors at its entrance. All kinds of fresh fish, fruits and vegetables can be found on this street which extends to Ist?klal Caddesi. Continue to the Flower Arcade, which was built in 1870.

Coffee stop at the world famous Pera Palace Hotel. It was built by The Orient Express Company, who realised the need for a hotel for those travellers who desired luxury. It is the oldest hotel in town and it has been host to many celebrities including Mata Hari, and hides many mysteries. The room where Agatha Christie conceived "Murder of the Orient Express" will be visited. Coffee, tea and sandwiches will be in the famous "Orient Express" Bar. Includes guide, transfers, casual lunch with soft drinks and tea/ coffee.

Friday 6th October (10.00am to 2.30pm) - "Baroque Splendour of Dolmabahce"

Built in 1856, Dolmabahce Palace, located on the edge of the Bosphorus, is a supreme example of lavish baroque decoration. Walls and furniture are covered with fourteen tons of gold gilding. All furniture is in place as if the royal family is away on vacation. The tour will include the staircase with crystal balustrades, the four and half ton chandelier in the main reception room as well as the bedrooms of the Sultans, and of their favourite wives and odalisques. Includes guide, transfers, entrance fees, casual lunch in Ortakoy district with soft drinks and tea/ coffee

External Dinners

Thursday, 5th October - Casual and tourist traditional dinner with local entertainment in the Kumkapi fish restaurant area of the old city- Neyzen restaurant (7.15pm to 10.30pm)

On Thursday night World Link for Law member firm - Gultekin Law Offices will provide and host a dinner. The Kumkapi area is very authentic, only in 10 minutes from the old city and renowned for its fish restaurants.

The menu is likely to include: fresh fish and meze (Turkish Hors d'Oevres that are brought in small quantities to start the meal off, and eaten until the main course is served); mixed seasonal salad, white beans in olive oil, fried eggplant with red sauce, anchovy, stuffed mussels, smoked salmon, octopus salad; puffy pastry with fish, deep fried squid rings, shrimps cooked in butter; fish (grilled/fried/casseroled) served with vegetables; followed by mixed seasonal fruits; crepe with bananas; tea/coffee and local drinks. There will be entertainment by gipsy dancers and gipsy musicians.

Friday, 6th October - Casual drinks reception and kebab dinner with entertainment - Kupeli Kebab House (6.45am to 10.30pm)

Instead of a drinks reception and dinner in the conference hotel on Friday evening, after a short bus ride we go to the offices of World Link for Law member firm of Le Buro in the Levent District to have some aperitifs in their garden (weather permitting). Dinner will be provided at the nearby Kupeli Kebap House with traditional Turkish cuisine, kebabs, BBQ and mezze. The attire for the dinner will be casual. There will also be Turkish entertainment - live music and a traditional belly dancer.

Full Day Excursion

Saturday 7th October - Full day Cultural city tour with luxury Bosphorus cruise and lunch (8.45am to 6.00pm)

On this tour you will see (and be guided about) the main sights of Istanbul in one day.

From the hotel, bus transfer to the Hippodrome Square built by the Roman Emperor Septimus and then to the Sultan Ahmed Camii, also called the Blue Mosque. The Blue Mosque is the most famous monument in both the Turkish and Islamic world, and the only mosque built with six minarets. Only short walk away stands the magnificent Hagia Sophia built by Constantine the Great and considered a masterpiece of Byzantine Art. Its first construction dates back to the second half of the 4rth century. Hagia Sophia served 916 years as a church and 477 as a mosque until Ataturk's orders converted it into a museum.

Then onto the Topkapi Palace, a 'must see' on any visit to Istanbul. The foundations date back to 1460. Apart from the mansions for residence of sultans and harem section, Topkap? Palace also features many structures such as wards for palace guards, a very spacious kitchen for use of palace residents, dormitories for palace servants, Kubbealt? where Divan meetings were held, Palace School, Treasury Office, a stable for the horses of sultan, and St. ?rini Church which was used as a weapon storage for some time.

Then, transfer to luxurious boat for a cruise of the Bosphorus with buffet lunch and local drinks. The route will pass Dolmbahce Palace to the Asian side of Istanbul; Uskudar - Beylerbeyi all the way to Kanlica then from the second Bosphorus bridge and return from the European side.

Lunch to include: welcome cocktail; nuts; chips& dips; antipasto/ crudite; ezine feta cheese, mozzarella; chicken & veal ham; salami with pistachio; dried & fresh fruits & pickles; green salad with tomatos, cucumbers, corn, carrot and red cabbage; potato salad with curried mayonaisse sauce; salad with soy sauce marinated mushrooms; rocket salad with garlic & tomatos; greek salad with basil & olives; mezes with olive oil; green beans cooked in olive oil; sauted zucchini with walnut & yogurt sauce cous-cous with sour apple served in green leaves; fried vegetables with tomato sauce
