About the Conference
The 2018 World Link for conference will be held between Thursday 26th and Saturday 28th April in Copenhagen (The main conference days are on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th April, up to lunchtime).
Copenhagen is a principal and historic Nordic city. It is open, easy to walk around and lively, with a great combination of history, art, and a stylish developing urban culture.
Our conference will be held in the waterside Admiral Hotel which is full of character, as it is a former warehouse with wooden beams dominating the property. It is a short walk to the Royal Palace and in the other direction within 400 metres of the popular Nyhavn area and start of the shopping area. If required there are many attractions outside the city such as Castles and Viking Museums. Further details are in the Tourist Information section, which contain other useful information about how to get to the conference hotel.

The conference will include many informative presentations, panel sessions and discussions, as well as social events, with numerous opportunities to meet World Link for Law colleagues. Additionally, there will be meetings of the Special Interest Groups for Arbitration and Tax on Friday 27th April. Before the conference, on Thursday afternoon, 26th April, there will be a North American regional meeting and a ‘LATAM’ meeting.
OVERVIEW/SUMMARY
Friday (27th April) and Saturday – up to lunch time (28th April) are the 'conference days', and will include interesting speaker sessions on a variety of current international legal and business issues, plus buffet lunches and coffees/tea breaks for delegates, (lunches on both days at the Admiral Hotel in the main restaurant). There will opportunities to attend International Arbitration, and Tax Law Special Interest Group meetings for those that wish to participate.
On Thursday 26th April, before the first day of the conference, in the afternoon, there will be a North American regional meeting and a ‘LATAM’ meeting.
In the evening, there is a pre-conference ‘welcome’ group dinner (with pre-dinner drinks) in a private room at the Admiral Hotel overlooking the canal and opera house. Hopefully, we may be able to take our aperitif’s outside in a private seating area.
After the first conference day on Friday 27th April there will be a group dinner preceded by a drinks reception at the historic ‘Odd Fellows Palace’ (with modern style cuisine), a short walk from the hotel. After dinner, there will be the famous World Link for Law fun quiz! Hopefully on Friday or Saturday we may be able to arrange a group photo on the Promenade outside the hotel.
On Saturday (28th April), there is a walking/food tour for guests (only) in the morning until lunchtime; and in the afternoon, for everybody, a guided tour of the Royal Amalienborg Palace, followed by a private city canal boat tour. In the evening there is the option of a tasting course dinner at Koefood, an up and coming new restaurant close to the hotel (but not as expensive as the world-renowned Nomo restaurant on the other side of the canal!).
DELEGATE COST Delegate prices for Friday 27th April and Saturday (morning/lunch), 28th April Principal delegate - £495 Additional senior lawyer - £245 Junior lawyer - £175 The prices include all conference delegate materials, conference lunches and coffee breaks, but not the Friday evening dinner, which is a traditional part of the conference usually attended by all delegates and their spouse or guest(s). The Thursday evening dinner and the social excursions on Saturday are also extra optional costs. The discounted prices are conditional on a booking (and attendance) by a principal delegate of the firm. Please note that due to the meeting room capacity this conference is limited to 90 persons, so booking early is recommended. Also, there is a limit to the room block at the Admiral Hotel. BOOKING DEADLINE: 25TH March 2018 IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE: If you are booking at an alternative hotel or booking at the conference hotel by a third-party agent/web site e.g. booking.com, World Link reserves the right to charge an additional £100 GBP on the delegate fee, per person (irrespective of the type of person booking), to cover possible financial attrition penalties which World Link may incur if our room quota is not utilised. But we will discuss this with you first before levying any charge. |
Definitions for booking purposes:
A ‘principal delegate’ is one of the two main World Link for Law contacts at a member firm or another senior lawyer, or junior lawyer, if one of those contact persons is not able to attend (i.e. it is the principal or only delegate). An ‘additional senior lawyer’ is another senior lawyer at that member firm (who may also be one of the two main contacts). They qualify for a £250 GBP discount assuming attendance of a principal delegate. Additionally, or alternatively, junior lawyers (lawyers or associates in member firms less than 35 years old) may book with a £320 discount, assuming attendance of a principal delegate. The purpose of this pricing structure is to encourage participation by additional lawyers in member law firms but also to ensure that we cover the Association’s base conference costs. Please also see #2 of the Terms and Conditions.

This culinary experience tour lets you explore Copenhagen on a food tour and learn about the Nordic country’s developing cuisine and restaurant scene. Discover produce as fresh as the Scandinavian air and check out the locals’ favourite eateries and market halls with an expert guide at your side. The walking distance is about 4km; the number of individual tastings will be 8-9, which makes up for a whole meal. The tour organisers can arrange vegetarian menus and take food allergies into account, if notified beforehand, but not for 100% vegan.
The tour will start at Torvehallerne, the new covered market halls, where you will sample artisan cheese, developed in collaboration with the city’s Michelin-starred chefs. Try liquorice, caramels and preserves from some of the most interesting small producers. You will go through Copenhagen Botanical Gardens. During the tour you will pass several of the city’s greatest landmarks and discuss its history, but food will always be the focus. Exclusive to this tour we will try the open sandwiches called Smørrebrød as well as a microbrewery where we sample three different types of home-brewed beer. The most classic and un-missable street food in Copenhagen is a hotdog, which we serve in a gourmet version. Finally, we will end at Torvehallerne again with return transport to the hotel.

Amalienborg is the home of the Danish Royal family. It was built in the 1750s as the midpoint of the surrounding Frederiksstaden quarter, which comprises the strip between Bredgade Street and the quay, stretching from Sankt Annæ Square to the Kastellet Fort. The four palaces were originally built as homes for the nobility, but were taken over by the Royal Family after the fire at Christiansborg in 1794.
Amalienborg is named after the summer palace Sophie Amalienborg, which was built in the years 1667-73 for Queen Sophie Amalie, approximately on the site of the current Amalienborg. It was a magnificent villa of Italian inspiration, and was the setting for the most glorious court festivities, but already burnt down 1689 in connection with Christian V’s birthday celebrations. For the occasion an opera house had been built next to the palace, and this proved to be a fire trap when the decorations caught fire during a re-enactment of the birthday performance. Around 180 people died, most of whom were children of the aristocracy, and the fire spread to the palace, which quickly burnt down.

Copenhagen airport is only about 8km from the city centre.
By taxi: The journey time is about 20 minutes and the cost is about 300 DKK (40 Euros).
By Metro: The Metro is located at Terminal 3 at the airport (in an undercover extension). It is about 8 stops on the Metro (clean, efficient and mostly overground) to Kongens Nytorv Metro station. The journey time is about 20 minutes and trains leave approximately every 10 minutes. See http://intl.m.dk/#!/ From Kongens Nytorv Metro station it is about 700 meters and 15 minutes to walk to the hotel. Make sure you follow signs for the Metro not the Railway Station at the airport (which is 2 levels below). The Metro is accessed via two upward escalators in the concourse. You need to purchase a 3-zone ticket to get to the city centre from the vending machines in the concourse (or before the platform) – usually there is some personal assistance if required. The cost is about 38DKK. Or see ‘Getting around’ for the idea of a city pass for multiple days.

Originally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Beginning in the 17th century it consolidated its position as a regional centre of power with its institutions, defences and armed forces. After suffering from the effects of plague and fire in the 18th century, the city underwent a period of redevelopment. This included construction of the prestigious district of Frederiksstaden and founding of such cultural institutions as the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After further disasters in the early 19th century when Nelson attacked the Dano-Norwegian fleet and bombarded the city, rebuilding during the Danish Golden Age brought a Neoclassical look to Copenhagen's architecture. Later, following the Second World War, the Finger Plan fostered the development of housing and businesses along the five urban railway routes stretching out from the city centre.
Since the turn of the 21st century, Copenhagen has seen strong urban and cultural development, facilitated by investment in its institutions and infrastructure. The city is the cultural, economic and governmental centre of Denmark; it is one of the major financial centres of Northern Europe with the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Copenhagen's economy has seen rapid developments in the service sector, especially through initiatives in information technology, pharmaceuticals and clean technology. Since the completion of the Øresund Bridge, Copenhagen has become increasingly integrated with the Swedish province of Scania and its largest city, Malmö, forming the Øresund Region. With a number of bridges connecting the various districts, the cityscape is characterised by parks, promenades and waterfronts. Copenhagen's landmarks such as Tivoli Gardens, The Little Mermaid statue, the Amalienborg and Christiansborg palaces, Rosenborg Castle Gardens, Frederik's Church, and many museums, restaurants and nightclubs are significant tourist attractions.

Metro
A regular ticket is a single trip ticket. You have to buy the amount of zones needed to get to your destination. 2 and 3 zone tickets are valid for one hour. 4, 5 and 6 zone tickets are valid for an hour and a half. 7, 8 and 9 zone tickets are valid for two hours. This does not refer to the number of the specific zones, but the amount of zones you have bought. Check the back of your ticket if you are in doubt. During this time you can use your ticket all you want in the metro, bus, train and harbour bus, as long as you do not pass through more zones than your ticket allows.

Zone tickets cost between DKK 24 (for 2 zones) and DKK 108 (for all zones). 2 zones will cover most travel in Copenhagen city centre, whereas an all zone ticket will get you to Elsinore, Roskilde or Frederikssund in the capital region.
With a City Pass you can enjoy unlimited travel on buses, trains and the metro in Copenhagen in zones 1-4, from the moment you arrive in Copenhagen via the airport. You can buy the tickets upon arrival in the airport or in advance so you can travel easily from and to the airport without having to think about where to purchase tickets, the types of tickets available or travel zones. This term does not apply to local firms.
After March 25th 2018, the Hotel will release any rooms not reserved in the room block for general sale. They will continue to accept reservations after this date on a space available basis and rates may be subject to change.
