KBRC (Paris) appoints new partner

Member firm KBRC (Paris) has appointed Corinne Lecocq, as a new partner. Corinne will head the tax department at KBRC as of September 2018. Corinne started her own practice (6 years ago) before joining KBRC in September 2018. She has 20 years’ experience in tax law.

She handles all matters in taxation, both for companies and individuals and at an international level. Corinne is admitted to both the Paris Bar and the Bar of Luxemburg.

World Link member firm acts as lead trial counsel

Dean Christopherson of Dawe & Christopherson LLP, San Francisco acted as lead trial counsel in litigation on behalf of the US subsidiary of a world-wide heavy equipment manufacturer, resulting in a $3 million judgment against an international property management and project management company. The judgment was recently upheld by the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeal in Chicago.


Cristiana Stoica appointed as member of the ICC Court of International Arbitration

Cristiana Stoica, former World Link for Law Vice President and Board Director of World Link for Law and founding partner of STOICA & Associati, Bucharest, Romania, has been appointed (since July 1, 2018) as a member of the ICC Court of International Arbitration.  Her designation by the Romanian ICC Committee was approved by the World Council of the ICC on 21 June 2018.  Cristiana says "It is an honour for me and I am looking forward to start this exciting activity, which certainly will enrich my experience as a lawyer and arbitrator.  Also, I believe that my current appointment will be of benefit for our World Link Arbitration Group in the future, which has representatives in many countries".



WHSmith turns to Montgomery & Associados for assistance on Brazilian market entry

One of the most famous British high street retailers and airport convenience store chains, WHSmith has turned to World Link member firm Montgomery & Associdos for legal and tax assistance on entering the Brazilian market.  WH Smith have formed a joint venture with Duty Free Americas (DFA) to open a number of convenience stores at RioGaleão, the international airport in Rio de Janeiro, which in 2016 recorded a flow of more than 16 million passengers.

WH Smith operates a global network of more than 280 international stores outside of the United Kingdom. The opening of the stores at RioGaleão results from the British company’s airport convenience store expansion strategy, which recently also included opening 8 stores at Madrid airport.

World Link for Law member elected as new president of the Arbitration Court of Barcelona

Julio de Miquel, senior partner of World Link member firm Arasa & de Miquel, Barcelona, has been unanimously elected, to be the new president of the Arbitration Court of Barcelona (Tribunal Arbitral de Barcelona – TAB ). The nomination is an important recognition of his professional career as a prestigious lawyer. TAB is a well-known Court vastly appreciated by companies for providing quick and confidential conflict resolution in Spain, and has the capacity to act all over the world.

Participation at the National Convention of the CNB

Philippe Bedard, President of World Link for Law, has been invited to participate in a panel session at the National Convention of the CNB  (a large national organisation of French solicitors) which is occurring from 18-21 October in Bordeaux, France, concerning a discussion about lawyers, legal networks and the impact on in their practices in France and worldwide.


Change of President

At the 2017 World Link for Law conference in New York, from May 12-13, Paul Sillis of Collyer Bristow LLP, London, retired as President after 6 years service in that role and was replaced by Philippe Bedard of KBRC & Associés, Paris, France. On behalf of the Association, Philippe presented Paul with a silver commemorative pen to thank him for his work as President since 2011.
