At the 2017 World Link for Law conference in New York, from May 12-13, Paul Sillis of Collyer Bristow LLP, London, retired as President after 6 years service in that role and was replaced by Philippe Bedard of KBRC & Associés, Paris, France. On behalf of the Association, Philippe presented Paul with a silver commemorative pen to thank him for his work as President since 2011.
The Board of World Link for Law is pleased to appoint (May 13, 2017) the firm of Neil Montgomery & Associados of São Paulo, Brazil as their Regional Centre Firm for South America. Neil was also appointed to the new Board of Directors in May. With the support of the Administration Service of World Link he will act as the focal communication point for the Association in the region, liaising with other South American (and LATAM) members as necessary and also potential firms for their clients in South America and globally via World Link and its member law firms. As co-chair of the World Link LATAM group with Rosa Maria Arasa of Arasa de Miquel/Euroforo, Spain, he will also assist with the coordination of regional meetings.
On May 11 Valeriu Stoica of Romanian member firm STOICA & Asociatii was appointed as a life professor, being awarded Doctor Honoris Causa of the Timisoara University in Romania. Valeriu and his wife, Cristiana Stoica are the founders of their law firm in Bucharest, which offers a broad range of commercial and private legal services. They are long standing members of World Link for Law. Cristiana was a Board Director and Vice-President of World Link, up to May 2017. She remains head of the Association’s International Arbitration Group. We congratulate Valeriu on this significant achievement.

World Link Northern Ireland member firm, Cunningham and Dickey have merged with CMG, moving to a new Belfast office with an additional office in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Two of the three partners, Brian Speers and Michael Robinson, are recent former presidents of the Law Society of Northern Ireland. Cunningham and Dickey was founded in 1870, while CMG started in 1910. Michael Robinson has recently been appointed as the new UK Head of Delegation to Council of the Bars and Law Societies of Europe, a role which involves extensive and regular Europe (and associated/observer country member) wide travel to represent UK professions on European Law matters and issues relevant to the UK professions.
